There’s a certain irony in seeing a massive 45’ Prevost touring bus laminated with the images of a band named the Po’ Ramblin’ Boys, and it’s leveled up in that one of the prominently featured “Boys” is actually a female. Once upon a time, that band name may have been a more accurate description, but it appears now that the moniker is more about nostalgia. Speaking of which, the product that claims the most real estate on the rolling billboard is Ole Smoky Distillery, the band’s primary sponsor and the reason the band exists in the first place. What started as a house band to entertain the tourists at their flagship facility in Gatlinburg has segued into four albums, an international touring schedule, multiple award nominations, and, not surprisingly, a few wins.

At [company redacted], we love our pets. A lot. The overwhelming majority of us have beloved family members with fur, feathers, or scales, and a couple with their own Instagram accounts... and we aren’t the only ones. The household canine population alone is outpacing that of their human benefactors, and a whopping 70% of US households now have pets of some species. We spend thousands of dollars annually on their health, from preventative medications to geriatric care and everything in between. In fact, the younger the generation, the more they are willing to spend, with over 40% of Millennials and Gen Z claiming that money is no object when it comes to their fur babies. Josh Hunt, a native of Russellville, KY, officially began playing drums at the age of five, after years of “holding sticks and making noise”, the result of being raised watching the drummer in his dad’s family band. His dad was a bass player and passed along to Josh his natural sense of rhythm. From the first time he sat down behind his blue sparkle Royce kit, there was no doubt where his career path would lead. He would later sit in with his dad’s band, building a foundation on 70’s rock covers, from Bob Seger to Lynyrd Skynyrd. As a teenager, he graduated to a set of Ludwigs and expanded his musical repertoire to include southern gospel with his church band, covers with musician friends in high school, and, of course, junior high and high school marching band. It was in his high school years that Josh also discovered jazz, crediting Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue” and Duke Ellington for drawing him in.

In the last few years, an overall awareness in nearly every marginalized arena has been noticeably heightened, and in the cases of those involving animal welfare, this awareness can go beyond the definition of such and become a lifestyle, such as vegetarianism and veganism. Though such concepts have been around for centuries, they have become increasingly mainstream, potentially leading those new to the ideas to seek ways to further these animal rights causes. While excluding meat and other animal products from ones diet is somewhat easily defined, to extricate from one’s daily life all other products involving animals, namely those that rely on animals for product testing, can be a daunting, overwhelming, and seemingly impossible task.
